Royal Bafokeng Holdings (Pty) Limited (RBH) is responsible for the management and development of the commercial assets of the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN), with the overall business objective of maximising returns to enable the RBN to deliver sustainable benefits to the community. RBH strives to continually improve the economic well being and quality of life of all stakeholders by investing in businesses that will generate exceptional returns over the long term, thus enabling it to contribute directly to the upliftment of the RBN community, both today and into the future. In line with this policy, RBH has a diversified investment portfolio with assets in the resources, industrial, services and financial sectors.

100% of the shares in RBH are held by the RBN. Social and economic delivery to the members of the RBN is undertaken by the Royal Bafokeng Administration (RBA), which has a status equivalent to that of a municipality. The Royal Bafokeng Institute focuses on educational initiatives.

Income generated by RBN’s commercial interests is invested in infrastructural development and in the members of the RBN. In the past decade, more than R2 billion has been spent on roads, utilities, schools, clinics and other public amenities. This has been to the benefit both of the RBN and other people living in the North West Province.

In essence, RBH represents a capitalised investment company with impeccable credentials and has a long history of delivery of economic and social benefits to its shareholders, the Royal Bafokeng Nation.

Sustainable Development

As a partly community owned company, Pasco needs to attend to issues of sustainable development in a more focussed manner than regular companies.

Pasco contributes to the sustainable development of the RBN in a number of ways:

  • Direct Corporate Social Investment (CSI) contributions of staff time and corporate money
  • Financial return generation: Generating profits/dividends for the RBN that may be used to fund social delivery projects

Pasco has been directly involved in the area of sport through ‘Sport as a Social Dividend’ and the Dreamfields soccer project, of which Pasco has been a proud sponsor.

The guiding principles for Pasco’s corporate social investments are similar to those used for commercial ventures:

  • Sustainability of funding and delivery capacity
  • Partnerships “financial and skills”
  • Best practices
  • Accountability and Good Governance
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
