3252332097_6a2719c8bdWe receive many comments and suggestion from the public regarding our features sections contained on our website. The comments about and interest generated around our 2010 World Cup section is very popular. We receive a large number of e-mails and messages in connection with our Host City Review series of features. The vast majority of messages received compliment our analysis and assessment of host city risk.

We also receive messages offering opinions and encouraging debate. One message recently received from Mr. Alan Straton, a self-professed passionate Port Elizabethan supporter, challenges our view on the readiness of the Port Elizabeth stadium. He writes, "On your web site here: Port Elizabeth it is stated; "it is hard to look past the fact that PE lost the right to host 2009 Confederations Cup matches because its new stadium was too far behind schedule". Please could you ALSO make a note that despite the above the stadium WAS ready before the commencement of the Confed Cup AND was the first newly built stadium to be ready". He proudly commented, "In addition this Sunday will see 'lil old PE hosting the THIRD event, as required by FIFA, once AGAIN the FIRST newly built stadium to reach this required milestone and more than 100 days before the commencement of the World Cup.There is NO MORE ghost on the coast".

Thank you Mr. Straton for your comments and observations. We note the achievements of one of South Africa's host cities. Dr Mark welman writes in response, "Having lived for 13 years in the Eastern Cape, I certainly understand your passion for the friendly city and I have many fond memories of PE. Our analysis at the time of writing the review was primarily around the plans for security at the stadium and the surrounding precinct, which appeared to be far behind schedule if they are to be properly implemented".

With 100 days to go to kick off around the corner, we shall shortly publish on this site, our 100 day countdown score-card assessment on South Africa's readiness to host the biggest event on the African continent in June this year. Give us your views on the 100 day score card, we would like to hear from you.
